Have you ever purchased a device or piece of equipment and then examined the instruction manual that came with it? The handbook is frequently used as a guide not only on how to assemble it, but also on how to operate it and the dos and don’ts. The creator of the gadget or equipment believes it is vital to provide guidance to the consumer to protect the device or equipment. Similarly, God’s word instructs and corrects us in righteousness in this way.
The Bible is God’s word to us. Psalms 119:5 NLT says that “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path”. We get clarity and direction when we study the Bible. God guides us primarily through His word and directs us when we are troubled. Are you at a crossroads on what to do? Do you need clarification on a decision? Study the word of God, it directs.
The word of God protects us from false teaching. A continuous and consistent study of the word of God shields us from wrong interpretations and biblical errors. The Word of God is the Truth. It is important that we study the Bible to help distinguish between what is true and what is almost true. Do you want to know where God stands on a topic? Or understand His will for your life? Study the word. (2 Timothy 2:16-18).
The word of God equips. Constant reading of the Bible strengthens our faith and conviction. It equips you to fulfill God’s will and live in His wisdom. What assignment has God laid in your hands? The word of God is able to equip you on the journey. (2 Timothy 3:17; Ephesians 6:17).
The word of God is God’s love. He loved us and saved us before we even realized we needed it (Romans 5:6-8). What a wonderful Father He is! God not only gave us His Spirit, but He also gave us His word as a guide. What a wonderful love the Father has for us! We are able to love because Christ first loved us. (1 John 4:19).
Moreso, God has given us the responsibility to reach the world with His word. We must therefore be committed to the study of the word to influence the world with it. The word of God is the only information that can change the life of a man and save humanity to the uttermost (John 6:63, Hebrews 7:25). We must therefore handle God’s word carefully, as lives are dependent on it (1 Timothy 4:16)
The Bible is not only inspiring, it is inspired. They are not mere words but God’s word to you as His child. As children responsible for the kingdom, we are to study and apply His word in our life. God’s word is alive! Study it today.
