“But He answered and said to them, ‘I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.’” – Luke 19:40 (NKJV)
This week, we’ve learnt that we are called to serve and therefore, we should do so with all our heart and strength. One important way to do this is to be present. Being present means being available to respond to God’s work. This involves readiness of mind and willingness to prioritise divine assignments knowing that it is a privilege to work for God.
Our anchor text shows the significance of being present and actively involved in God’s work. He is committed to seeing His purpose established, and if men are not available, God will find other ways, even if they are unconventional.
God values dependable men. In Genesis 18:19, we see Him commend Abraham for his presence, availability, and faithfulness, saying, He knew He could count on Him to do the work and carry on the legacy needed for the fulfilment of His salvation plan.
Over and again in Paul’s letters, he commended those who were present and active in the ministry– the Philippian church (Philippians 1:3-5), Epaphras (Colossians 4:12-13), Priscilla and Aquila (Romans 16:3-4). He recognised their commitment and support because it had a significant impact on the early church. You have a lot to offer, and by merely being present, you can do the same and even more than these people did.
Attend church services and be on time, support your spiritual leaders in whatever way you can, volunteer in a service unit and be committed, and through all of this, do not be weary, knowing that your labour is never in vain in the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58).
Your pastors and church leaders rely on the support of dependable members to carry out their mission effectively, because they cannot do the work alone. Hebrews 13:17 shows us the importance of supporting and obeying those who lead us in the faith. To do this effectively, you must be present and actively involved. Every effort you make in service of the Lord is meaningful and valuable (Galatians 6:9).
Dear believer, avail yourself to do the work of the ministry. Be a person that God can count on. His desire is for faithful men to carry on the work of ministry (2 Timothy 2:2).
You are called to serve. So, be present, be available, and ultimately, be a vessel for God’s work.
