PRAY!

“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.”
James 5:17 ESV

When you read the conquest stories of the heroes of faith in the Bible, do they seem to you like fiction or a work of art borne out of someone’s imagination? Even though you believe that they actually happened, do you think you can also do what they did?

We know how Prophet Elijah called fire from heaven to consume an altar (1 Kings 18:36-39), and outran a chariot (1 Kings 18:45-46). Apostle James, in our anchor scripture, tells us that Elijah had the same human propensities and weaknesses like us. However, his earnest prayers produced great results. Do you believe this can be your life too?

In the same vein, we see Prophet Ezekiel experience great results after obeying God in prayer. Like Ezekiel, your situation might seem hopeless like the valley of dry bones. Ezekiel wasn’t even sure the bones could live but at God’s word, he spoke to the bones and life came into them (Ezek. 37:7-10).

“So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone.” – Ezekiel 37:7 ESV

Dear Believer, what has God said concerning your life? Speak His word over that situation in prayer today. You have something greater than what Elijah or Ezekiel had. You have the Spirit of God within you.

Elijah and other Old Testament prophets looked forward to your day. You shouldn’t think what they did is unattainable for you. You have the power and capacity to do far more

See what Jesus said about you:

“And these signs will accompany those who believe. In My name, they will cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues, they will pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark 16:17-18 ESV

Jesus said these words after giving His eleven disciples the Great Commission and when they received the Holy Ghost in Acts 2, these words became their daily reality. As they went about preaching the gospel, they displayed mighty power in miracles, signs and wonders.

They also lived a life of consistent, fervent prayer. In fact, a number of supernatural happenings in the early church occurred during or after a prayer session (Acts 2:4; 3:7-8; 4:31; 12:5).

Listen, if you pray like our heroes of faith did, you would have their results and much more. Spend time praying today!
