LIGHT TO YOUR PATH

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalms 119:105 NIV

Over the years, there has been a recurring question among believers: ‘How does God lead?’ And sure enough, there are so many answers to this question. God leads through dreams, visions, trances, prophecies, angelic encounters, words of knowledge, and the list goes on.

The above mentioned ways are not wrong but a lot of people are so fixated on those dimensions of leading that they trivialize the most potent way that God leads – through His word.

It doesn’t matter how long you have been saved or how close to God you feel, the truth remains that God’s primary instrument of guidance is His word.

2 Timothy 3:16‭-‬17 NIV says:
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

From the scripture above, Paul makes known the utmost importance of the word of God. It is inspired by God and is useful for correction, rebuking, teaching, and training the servant of God.

It is worthy of note that the word of God is the Bible properly interpreted. This is why studying the Bible is important.

Our anchor verse in Psalms 119: 105 buttresses this point by saying that the word of God is important for direction and leading. Many of the questions you ask are answered in the word of God. When you study the word of God, you will know what to do, where to go, and how to live.

As a matter of fact, Matthew 12:38-40 shows that your prayer for direction could be an act of rebellion because you are yet to obey the clear and direct instructions you have found in the word of God.

We have established that God leads primarily through his word, but a major key to being led by God through His word is a “yielded heart”.

You cannot enjoy the benefits of God’s leading if you are still set in your ways. Having a yielded heart means submitting to God’s leading and giving up resistance to correction. You must be willing to subject your will to God’s will.

When you are receptive and yielded to God’s will as you study His word, God plants zeals, inclinations and leadings in your heart. He leads you.

We ought to believe in the finality of the word of God and give it the honour that it deserves. It is the primary way that God leads us. Study His word, and it will light up your path.

Hallelujah!
