“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” – Psalms 119:105 NKJV
Welcome to the 20th weekly devotional recap of the year. This week, we learned to receive God’s word with an open heart, because in it, we see our true reflection. When we let it guide our paths, we become better versions of ourselves, growing deeper in the faith and discerning the devil’s lies.
On Monday, We learned to receive God’s word with an open heart. Every believer must approach God’s word with receptiveness; and willingness to open one’s heart to the teaching of God’s word and to embrace the truth wholeheartedly. Hence, it is essential that we be intentional about our daily Bible study (Ephesians 3:3-5 ) and that we honour the ministry men that God has sent as gifts for our spiritual growth (Ephesians 4:8-14).
Tuesday’s article taught us what to do with the received Word of God. God’s word is our mirror (James 1:23-24), so when we look into it and see our true reflection, we should adjust our lives. So, immerse yourself in the reading and understanding of the Scriptures (2 Timothy 2: 15), apply yourself to the instructions thereof (2 Timothy 3:16), and pray and trust the Holy Spirit for guidance and strength (Philippians 2:13).
Wednesday’s focus was on sharpening your discernment in your Christian walk. We ought to be equipped to discern right from wrong. To avoid deception, examine all information about the faith you encounter (1 Thessalonians 5:21). Deepen your knowledge of God’s word, the ultimate source of truth (Ephesians 4:14, Acts 17:11). Keep Jesus at the centre of your faith and actively fight deception by speaking out against the devil’s lies (2 Timothy 2:2).
On Thursday, we were charged to be deeply rooted. Like a deep-rooted tree weathers storms (1 Thess. 5:21), strong faith in scripture helps us navigate confusing teachings (Matthew 24:11, 7:15-20). Find a Bible-teaching church (Eph. 4:12-14) and study daily (Acts 17:11). Scripture is complete – avoid “new revelations” and do well to defend the truth at all times.
Friday’s article reminded us of how God’s word directs our path. The Word of God serves as our lamp; a light that guides our path (Psalm 119:105). We have the light of the Lord by God’s Holy Spirit and His Word to keep us from stumbling in darkness (John 8:12). By aligning with the wisdom of God and training ourselves to take the Word as the final authority, we can take the right steps in the right direction consistently.
Dear believer, soaking in God’s Word daily strengthens your faith, equips you to discern truth, and empowers you to defend it. May His light continue to guide you.
Enjoy your weekend!
