“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1 NKJV
In some homes, there are some items and materials that have been considered as sacred because they are reserved for special people or occasions. In the same way, every believer should realise that we have been called to live a life set apart for God’s glory alone.
Apostle Paul, writing to the church in Rome and by implication every believer, emphasises the fact that you belong to God and the hallmark of this is honouring God with your life (Romans 12:1). This is what it means to set yourself apart (1 Corinthians 6:20, Colossians 3:1-4). Your life is no longer your own, so your actions, your decisions, your desires must be God-ward.
One of the ways you can reflect consecration to God is in your pursuits. If God is Lord over your life, you will not take steps without putting Him first. So, at the heart of everything you do, you should desire to be at the centre of His plans for your life. Jesus exemplified this and so should you (Luke 22:42, Hebrews 10:7).
It will also reflect in your approach to evangelism. You have been set apart from the world unto God and it means that the burdens of His heart have become yours. Knowing that God wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of His truth should also become your desire. So, you must pursue this aggressively.
Preach the Gospel everyday and every chance you get. Do not keep quiet about Jesus. The Gospel has the power to save and you cannot be ashamed of talking about the One you have been set apart unto. (Romans 1:16, 2 Corinthians 5:18-20, 1 Timothy 2:4)
Lastly, it must reflect in your conduct. The life of God places a responsibility on you to be different. You are light and you must conduct yourself as such (1 Peter 2:9). No matter how appealing actions, places and decisions are, you should refrain from them if they are contrary to the standard of God’s Word. Just as Jesus ensured that His Father’s house was used for no other purpose than what it was built for in Matthew 21:12-13, you must consecrate yourself to God.
Today, be reminded that God has called you unto a life of obedience to Him and it must reflect in how you live so, take steps of devotion and consecration to Him today and always.
