HOW TO BE EXCELLENT

Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm”. Daniel 6:3 NKJV

In today’s world, being excellent as a believer is important because there are some people that will not be reached with the gospel without your influence. Exuding excellence births recognition which opens up the hearts of people to identify with you which can be a platform to preach the gospel to them.

One way to be excellent is to pick something to be excellent at. You cannot be excellent at everything so, you must determine what is most important at a particular point in time and give your attention to it. When you determine this, you must then be preoccupied with it. What another person will do randomly, you must be attentive enough to be meticulous and detailed about it, crossing your Ts and dotting your Is.

In Acts 18:1-4, we see a reference to Apostle Paul’s tent-making profession and how that became a basis through which a relationship with Priscilla and Aquilla, who were of the same profession was formed. He was able to preach and teach them the gospel through this connection.

The next thing to do is to exert yourself by putting in the work. This is very important as being a believer does not exempt you from hard work. We live in a competitive world and to stand out, hard work will be required to always be at the top of your game.

Just as an athlete strives to beat previous records, you must consistently strive to go over and beyond what you have dedicated your life’s pursuit to. Remember, excellence cannot be arrived at idly or haphazardly.  (Proverbs 13:4, 14:23, 1 Thessalonians 4:10b-12)

Lastly, always do it better the next time. There must be something new every time you do something. This means that you must constantly evolve in your approach to carrying out your duties and ensure to continually be a source of inspiration.

Do not stick to how things have always been done or the restrictions that people in your field have placed as boundaries beyond which nothing different can be done. So, you must continually strive to push boundaries.

Today, choose something to be excellent at and be diligent at it every day and night knowing that through it, God will be glorified in your day.
