HONOUR GOD

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” – Romans 12:1 NKJV

Imagine being handed the keys to a stunning, high-performance car with one condition: care for it and use it wisely. At first, the thrill of the ride might take over, but soon you realise the real joy lies in preserving its value and sharing it with others. In the same way, God entrusts us with resources—not just for our pleasure but to steward them in a way that honours Him.

We live in a world where wealth and material success are often seen as the ultimate goals. Yet, as believers, we are called to a higher purpose. One where our relationship with money reflects our trust in God and His provision. The way we handle our finances isn’t just about personal comfort; it’s an expression of our faith.

Our walk with God must shape every aspect of our lives, including our attitude toward money. We must recognise that all our resources ultimately come from God. He has entrusted us with the responsibility of honouring Him with our finances. But how can we do this?

The first step is to put greed to death (Colossians 3:5), as it values material gain over relationships, integrity, and generosity. Though money itself isn’t evil, the love of it can lead us astray (1 Timothy 6:10), becoming a tool for the enemy. As believers raised with Christ, we are empowered to overcome greed and must guard against it (Ephesians 5:3-5).

The second way we honour God with our finances is through our giving. Giving is a vital expression of our faith and love for God and His work. Scripture teaches that God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). Our giving should stem from a heart that acknowledges everything belongs to God, not from obligation or compulsion. By giving, we align with His purposes and trust in His provision, honouring Him by placing our resources in His hands, knowing He can multiply them for His glory and the growth of His Kingdom.

Finally, honouring God with our finances also means being wise stewards of what He has entrusted us. We must budget, save, and invest wisely, ensuring that our spending aligns with godly principles. Proverbs 21:20 reminds us that a wise person stores up choice food and oil, which implies the importance of managing resources carefully. Financial stewardship is about making choices that reflect our faith and honour God in how we live, give, and invest.

In conclusion, honouring God with our finances involves a conscious choice to put to death greed, practice generous giving, and wisely steward what He has entrusted us. When we align our hearts and actions with God’s purposes, we demonstrate to the world that everything we have belongs to Him, and we are called to honour Him in how we manage it.
