“Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits”– Psalm 103:1-2 NKJV
Welcome to the 51st weekly devotional recap of the year. We’re almost at the end of the year, and this week’s articles showed us a few of the many different reasons why we should thank God.
We began on Monday by learning to give thanks to Him simply because of who He is– God, Creator and sustainer of all. When we acknowledge His greatness in creating the world and all that is in it, it will inevitably lead to praise (Psalms 148:1-5). God does not exist for us, but we for Him (Revelations 4:11), so He is worthy of every honour we ascribe to Him and more. God is God, and there is none like Him! Let this revelation fuel your thanks.
Tuesday’s article reminded us to thank God because He can be trusted (Numbers 23:19). When He speaks, He fulfils His word; and when He promises, He makes it good. He cannot lie and does not waver in His plans. His promises are a firm foundation on which you can stand. God never fails, and He wants you to know and rest in this (Psalm 46:1). Thank God for His dependability!
On Wednesday, we learnt that because our God can do all things (Luke 1:37), we should praise Him The Bible is replete with testimonies of God’s omnipotence, which serve to remind us that no obstacle is too great for Him to overcome (Jeremiah 32:17). No matter what challenges come your way, the God who spoke the universe into existence is more than able to meet your needs. Thank Him for this!
On Thursday, we saw yet another reason to give God thanks: He is always there (Isaiah 43:2). Even though life would many times suggest otherwise, grow in awareness that you are never alone; instead, you are always under the care and watchful eyes of a loving Father. He is your very present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). As a believer, you have the Spirit of God, meaning that God dwells in you! Let this assurance stir up thanksgiving in you. You are not alone; God is with you!
We ended the week by learning to thank God because He is good. Everyday life and the challenges it brings can make us question this truth, but God is good, always good, and only good. His very nature, independent of your circumstances, is good, and He is incapable of being anything but good (James 1:17). From the grand display of His creation (Romans 1:20), to His work of salvation (Romans 5:6-8), to His goodness reflected in our day-to-day lives, everything bears testament to this truth– He is good. Respond with thanks!
Dear believer, these are only a few reasons to give God thanks. For the rest of the year, think of the many other reasons God is worthy of your thanks and respond appropriately.
Have a blessed weekend!
