Day 45, February 14th, 2025 (Leviticus 18-19, Acts 2:1-21)

In today’s reading, we explore the events surrounding the moment when the disciples first received the promised Holy Spirit. Earlier, Jesus had instructed the disciples not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for the promise of the Father-the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4). They obeyed, and on the day of Pentecost, they received the Holy Spirit, with evidence of speaking in tongues, as seen in today’s passage.

Many people were astonished by this new experience, with some mistakenly concluding that the disciples were drunk with wine. However, Apostle Peter explains that this was a fulfilment of the prophecy of Joel (Joel 2:28-29). Jesus had been exalted, and as a result, the Holy Spirit was poured out on them.

As Christians, this is our reality: when we believe the Gospel, we receive the Holy Spirit. Through Him, we can function in any of the spiritual gifts for the edification of ourselves and the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12). We are not waiting for the Holy Spirit; He has been freely given to all who believe. Glory!

They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
