“Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”
1 Corinthians 4:2 ESV
One thing every believer knows is that Jesus is our saviour. By His sacrifice, we were delivered from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of the son. However, it is also important to know that at salvation, Jesus also became our Lord.
The Bible says in Philippians 2:11 that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Jesus being our Lord means that His will and purpose has become ours, and this purpose is to know Him and make Him known.
Paul in writing to the Corinthian Church says that Jesus ‘died for all, so that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him who for their sake died and was raised up.” (2 Corinthians 5:15)
Our gifts, talents, abilities, and opportunities do not belong to us, but to our Lord. Therefore as stewards, we must ensure that we are faithful with the resources our Lord has committed unto us. And this faithfulness must be fueled by love.
Do we remember Jesus’s words to Peter, He said o him, “Do you love me?” This goes to show that our commitment to our masters’ cause must be fueled by our love for Him. Concerning this love however, we must know that we love him because He first loved us by giving His life for ours. Therefore we ought to live our lives for Him.
This is our calling as believers, and to this calling, just like our anchor scripture says, we must be found faithful. The word “steward” means “one who manages everything for his master”. When the master returns, the steward will give an account.
We see a vivid example of this in the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-31). The master who gave talents to each servant was expecting profits in return. Hence, he says to the one given five talents who returned with five more talents “well done, good and faithful servant.You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.”
There is a mindset a faithful steward must have, it is the mindset of reward. Paul said we will all appear before the judgement seat of Christ to receive the reward for what we have done in the body while on earth (2 Corinthians 5:10).
Hence, we must run like there is truly a reward because of a truth, God will reward faithfulness. As faithful soldiers, we must always be found at our post doing our master’s bidding in whatever form or role we have been given in body.
