“but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23b NIV
Think about this: whether it’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten, an awesome movie you just saw, a compelling book you just couldn’t put down, a great gift you received, landing your dream job— when something amazing happens, the first thing we usually want to do is share it with others!
Christmas is the celebration of the greatest news humanity has ever received: the birth of Jesus. But unlike whatever piece of exciting news you have that likely only impacts you or some people, the coming of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world, is good news for everyone!
It’s the kind of news we should be desperately, unashamedly excited to share with each and every person we encounter. No news should travel faster than the good news that God has made a way for us to be restored to a right relationship with Him, redeemed of our sins, and received into His family as children.
We all know how much gifting is emphasized this season. Well, the good news is that we received the best gift of all.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 (NIV)
This is the best gift we could ever receive— eternal life! As believers, we’ve received a gift that will keep on giving forever— a perfect gift that will never get old, never break, never wear out, never be empty, and will never lose its value; the greatest gift the world has ever known. All we have to do is believe. Jesus paid the ultimate, the highest price to purchase this gift for us, so He could offer it to us freely!
So this Christmas, as you package the finest gifts to share with family and friends, don’t forget to share the best gift a man could ever receive. Share this good news about Christ and just like your heart warms when you give your friends gifts, and they receive them well. Like Luke 15:7 says, there’s even greater rejoicing in heaven when this gift of eternal is received by anyone.
We have rounded off our Bible Reading Plan for the year. If you are yet to finish, take the rest of the year to catch up. We are cheering you on!
