“To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” – Revelation 1: 5b – 6 (NKJV)
A couple desiring a weekend getaway booked a resort. On arrival, they received a VIP Card which grants access to full board services i.e. Breakfast, lunch and Dinner. However, they were unaware of this offering and thought the card was merely a key. Imagine their bemusement to realise at the point of check-out that their booking allowed them access to all the resort’s premium offerings.
Understanding our position in Christ Jesus gives perspective on the believer’s authority. When we don’t know our position, we become like this couple who had access to VIP services but didn’t realise it. This means we cannot fully exercise the authority we have in Christ from the place of ignorance. The anchor scripture describes the man in Christ as a king and Priest. This is a position of authority and influence.
Now that we have established our position in Christ, we must know that it comes with authority (Luke 10:19). The authority we have received is for influencing our world. In this world, there is a constant war of influence. On one side is the believer who is a courier of God’s presence and establishment of God’s will on earth. On the other side are principalities and powers with their agenda, striving for influence (Ephesians 6:12). We can’t afford to be complacent in this battle.
Everyone has a sphere of influence. This includes your family, friends, workplace, and city. As a believer, these are areas in which you can express your God-given authority. The will of God can prevail in your sphere of influence when you stand as the priest and king that you are. You can heal the sick. You can cast out demons. You can pull down strongholds in the minds of people. Through you, the Gospel can prevail. Jesus says all authority has been given to Him, and He has empowered us to go in that authority (Matthew 28:18-19).
Dear Believer, there is an urgency with which we must take our place. The world needs you to be the priest that you are. You are a city set on a hill, a light of and for the world. You must rise to the occasion and take your place of authority.
SAY THIS: Christ is seated in heavenly places, and I am seated in him. I take my position of authority in Christ. My eyes are opened to see my areas of influence and I take my place as king and priest. Every tree my heavenly father has not planted is rooted out, and I establish the will of God in my sphere of influence.
