SHINE YOUR LIGHT

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.”

Matthew 5:14 NLT

Have you ever wondered what the world would look like without the sun or what would happen to the earth if the sun suddenly disappeared? Well, no one knows for sure. However, what is certain is that there will be complete darkness; everywhere will be cold, and living things will die.

God didn’t just create the sun to be a beautiful star to decorate the world, He created it to illuminate the earth. Just like the sun, we have been called the light of the world.

In John 8:12 NIV, Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”. In following Christ, we become the light of the world (John 12:46). Jesus referred to Himself as the light that illuminates the world. His light brought truth, power, and life (John 1:4).

Just as the moon does not have light, in and of itself, but instead reflects the light received from the sun, so is it that we are to reflect the light of God, which we have received through faith in Jesus Christ, to our world (2 Corinthians 4:5). Your light cannot and should not be hidden (Luke 8:16). Christ, who is your light, should be reflected through your conduct, speech and lifestyle.

Have you ever wondered what the world would look like without the light of the gospel? Or what would happen to the world if we didn’t spread our light?  Imagine a room with multiple people, yet only one candle is lit. How effective will it be? But picture a room lit up with a candle that also lights other candles; the room will surely be brighter.

You have been called light to bring others out of darkness. We do so by telling the world about the finished work of Christ who is now seated at the right side of the Father (2 Corithians 4:4). As visible as the light is, so we can, by faith, embrace Jesus who is light. All He did, we did in Him. Such good news!

You are an ambassador of Christ – God’s envoy on earth (2 Corithians 5:20). If you cannot imagine the earth without the sun, how much more is the earth without the light of Christ spread through the gospel?

Shine this light everywhere; on social media, when having conversations, and even in your place of influence. Let the world know the light you have received (John 1:7).  You are the light of the world. Tell someone about Jesus today!
