RADICAL FOR JESUS

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord.”
Romans 12:11 NIV

Have you ever come across a sports fanatic? These people are avid team supporters. They invest in team jerseys, never miss a game, and cheer their team on when they win without changing their allegiance even when their team is on a losing streak.

On the other hand, showing this kind of love and devotion to God in our day is not popular culture. Many Christians who show ardent devotion to God may be looked down on or mocked for their convictions. Regardless, as believers, we have been called to live a radical life of faith and allegiance to God and His cause. This must reflect for the world to see.

Jesus, our greatest example, showed us what it means to be radical for God’s cause when He drove traders out of the Temple.

“To those who sold doves, he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.” John 2:16-17 NIV

Here, we see that Jesus’ love and zeal for His Father’s house were so palpable that He took action and it was evident for all to see. His eventual sinner’s death for the sin of the world made Him a public spectacle.

Dear believer, if Christ endured shame and the cross for you, the least you can do is to be bold and radical in your love for him. Like Apostle Paul said in our anchor scripture, your service to God must be with zeal and fervour. He also emphasized this in his letter to Titus:

“Who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his possession who are zealous for good works.” Titus 2:14 ESV

In your prayer, fellowship with the saints, service in your local church, and passion for souls let it be evident that God’s love has consumed you. Let all you do for God be wholehearted, performing your duty in this army with delight.

Let the testimony of you be like Apostle Paul’s charge and hopeful testimony of the Philippian church:

“Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel.” Philippians 1:27 ESV

In the Lord’s army, there is no secret service. We have all been called to go all out for Christ in our service to him. Resolve in your heart to get up and be counted today.
