“Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only” – Philippians 4:15 (NKJV)
Every radical move you see in the world today didn’t just happen on its own. There were people behind it with committed hearts, willing hands, as well as those who believed in the vision enough to give their all. It’s the same with the Gospel. For the message of Christ to spread to the nations, believers must rise and play their part.
The church at Philippi understood this. They were not wealthy, yet their giving stood out in Scripture as a pattern for us all. Their generosity was proof of their deep conviction that the message of Christ was worth everything. Truly, no one invests in what they do not believe in.
One remarkable attribute of the early Church was its generosity in advancing the Gospel. They sold their possessions and brought the proceeds to the Apostles (Acts 2:44-45). Their giving reflected that same deep faith in Jesus, for no one invests in what they do not believe in.
In every generation, the Gospel has advanced because of faithful partners, people who consistently and sacrificially give. Even during Jesus’ earthly ministry, certain women partnered with Him by using their resources (Luke 8:2–3). Partnership is God’s design for progress in the kingdom.
In contemporary times, we have seen great ministries, churches, and missionary organisations that have taken the Gospel to the nations of the world. How did they achieve this? They had partners who were committed to giving.
Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21). Your giving reveals what you truly value. It’s one of the clearest ways to measure your devotion and faith. If you believe that the Gospel is the power of God to save, then giving towards its spread is the most reasonable response. Lay up your treasures where it has eternal relevance!
So, don’t wait for convenience to give. Decide to be intentional about it. As Paul taught, “On the first day of every week, let each one of you lay something aside” (1 Corinthians 16:2). You work, you earn, you plan all so that you can contribute to God’s cause. This is true kingdom-mindedness.
One of the motivations for work, as prescribed by the Apostle Paul, is to give (Ephesians 4:28). As you wake up every day, let this consciousness be top of mind: your work is glorifying God and bringing souls to the kingdom. We are the body of Christ on the earth, and we must be committed to His course.
Dear Child of God, commit today that your resources will power the spread of the Gospel in our day. If Jesus has done the work, our response should be to sponsor the spread.
