NO GREY AREA

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – 2 Tim 2:15 (NKJV)

If you grew up in Nigeria or neighbouring African countries, you’ve probably heard the tale of the Nigeria-India football game where India supposedly won 99-1. Many people believed this story as kids,  but as grown-ups, having realised that it couldn’t be true, they still think there might be some atom of truth to it.

Similarly, there are doctrinal beliefs you may have held, backed by scripture, that you later discovered were false after hearing the right message or through personal study. But unlike fables, when it comes to the Gospel, there are no in-betweens or grey areas; it is either true or false(Galatians 1:8-9). Therefore, it is crucial for believers to understand the message of the Gospel and teach it accurately to others (1 Peter 3:15). If the right message is not preached, believers will struggle to reach their full potential in Christ.

This week, we will explore different approaches to making Christ known in our secular world. We must emphasise the right message to evangelise in this dark world (2 Timothy 4:2). We are not just contending with those who oppose the gospel but also those who sit on the fence, neither hot nor cold (Revelations 3: 16).

Believers are not based in churches alone; we function in various secular spheres as doctors, lawyers, writers, artists, and more. For example, in the entertainment sector, a believer active in that field must project the right message. Your lyrics may not always be scriptural, but they should be clean and embody Christian values. Every platform a believer has should be used to promote the truth; otherwise, falsehood will dominate.

Apostle Paul noticed this grey-area attitude in the Galatian church and quickly called them out for twisting the Gospel to serve their purposes (Galatians 2:11-13). Imagine if Paul had not spoken up. This should be your approach as well—boldly speak up where falsehoods or half-truths are being spread (Acts 4:29; Acts 13:46; Ephesians 6:19-20).

As you study the word and grow in knowledge, find ways to express and spread that knowledge in your sphere of influence. Even if you stand alone for the truth, your reward is as Jesus promised—great in heaven (Matthew 5:11-13).

Preach the right message and sponsor it, for it is a much-needed light in this dark world.
