LIVING ON PURPOSE

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” –  Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

Living without a purpose can be likened to sailing a ship without a destination. The crew is busy and the engines are running, but having no clear direction, they drift aimlessly, at the mercy of the waves.  We can be living busy lives, filled with activities, always on the go and yet we are only drifting aimlessly through the waves of life without a clear purpose to live for.

We have established that your career or business is not your purpose and that your purpose is not determined by you but by your creator. We have also learned that purpose is that one thing you were created for, and at which you must succeed, otherwise, every other thing you succeed at will not count.

Knowing these, we understand that a life full of activities is not necessarily a life lived on purpose.  How then, can we live on purpose?

The first step to living with purpose is discovering your purpose in Christ. God has a unique plan for each of us, as stated in Jeremiah 29:11, and we can only uncover this plan by earnestly seeking Him. The psalmist declared, “Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his” (Psalm 100:3).

Likewise, the Apostle Paul emphasised, “We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). Therefore, to live with purpose is to live for the One who created us (2 Corinthians 5:15). Yet before we can live out this purpose, we must first discover what God has called us to do and how He desires for us to live.

Once we have discovered our purpose, the next step is to embrace it fully. This requires stepping out in faith, and trusting completely in God’s plan for our lives, even when it diverges from our own plans. Let God be true! “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV).

Finally, living with purpose means living with an eternal perspective. Our purpose becomes clearer when we shift our focus from temporary, worldly goals to eternal ones.

“Since you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:1-2 NLT).

Living with purpose is about aligning your life with God’s will—discovering, embracing, and pursuing His purpose for you, all while keeping your eyes fixed on eternity.

Live on purpose.
