Making decisions is part of the requirements for existence, we make decisions almost every second of our lives, and these decisions always have a way of positively or negatively impacting our lives. Some decisions are more difficult than others.
In Genesis 31, Jacob is at a crossroads when he realised he was already losing favour in the sight of his hosts. At this point, he had served faithfully for 20 years in his uncle, Laban’s house. Following the instruction of God, he took a bold decision to leave. This bold step later led to the encounter he had which resulted in a change in his name.
This goes to show you that when you are at a crossroads and you need to make a life-altering decision, choose to seek the counsel of God.
On the other hand, Matthew 10:24-11:6 is full of instructions Jesus gave to His disciples to prepare them for what they would go through as they start the work of ministry. He instructed them to fear God above all else and choose to please God alone.
Prayer: Lord help me to grow tenacious faith and not be easily discouraged when things get difficult.
Today’s reading
Genesis 31-32
Now Jacob heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, “Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s, and from what was our father’s he has acquired all this wealth.”
And Jacob saw the countenance of Laban, and indeed it was not favorable toward him as before.
Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers and to your family, and I will be with you.”
Matthew 10:24-11:6
A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.
It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!
Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.
