Day 12 (Genesis 29-30, Matthew 9:35-10:23)

In today’s New Testament reading, Jesus asks His disciples to pray for more workers to reap the harvest of many souls. This prayer is still relevant today. As a believer, you should be devoted to praying for the lost. Instead of complaining or despairing, pray. Your prayers make a significant difference. Prayer softens unwilling hearts to receive the Gospel and helps people see and believe.

However, many believers stop at prayer. In the next verse, we see Jesus sending the twelve apostles to towns and cities to minister to people. Prayer is not the end. You must pray and evangelize. You are an answer to Jesus’ prayer.

Apostle Paul emphasizes this to the church of Corinth and you as well, “For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!'” (2 Corinthians 5:19-20, NLT)

You have the ministry of reconciliation. You are an ambassador for Christ. You have the message. Pray and reap the harvest.

3 Now all the flocks would be gathered there; and they would roll the stone from the well’s mouth, water the sheep, and put the stone back in its place on the well’s mouth.

The Compassion of Jesus

36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were [b]weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.

37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.
