BE VISIONARY

“Enlarge the place of your tent, And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your stakes.” – Isaiah 54:2 (NKJV)

A 100 metres sprint especially on a big stage like the Olympics takes an average of 10 seconds. When you think about it, it is the same amount of time it takes to read this sentence. However, are you aware that to achieve a podium finish and win a medal, you must have been consistently training for the last 4 years of your life? Interesting right? 4 years for 10 seconds.

The athlete has a goal in mind which is to win a medal. So from the moment that vision is conceived, plans and steps are put in place to achieve it. If athletes can assume such posture to achieve their earthly goals, what about a believer whose goals are primarily heavenly before earthly? It means that your posture must always show that you prioritise God above every other earthly concern.

Therefore, when it comes to bringing your God-given vision to reality one of the most important things to do is to build capacity. We understand the place of prayer when it comes to doing anything for God. Nevertheless, as important as prayer is, it can get you to the door, but you need the capacity to walk in and take up whatever comes your way.

From our anchor text, Prophet Isaiah directly instructs the people of Israel to build capacity. He tells them to enlarge the place of their tent and stretch out the curtains of their dwellings because God was about to bless them and they needed the capacity to carry the blessing coming their way.

Similarly, God instructed Noah to build the ark before the flood came and Jesus prepared before stepping out to begin the work of ministry (Genesis 6: 13-22, Luke 4: 3-13). That should be our standard as well, as believers.

Visionaries are people who always have the future in mind, they are forward thinkers, focused, determined, and relentless. So, they understand what they need to do per time to develop themselves in all capacities.  If as a visionary, you are not building capacity continuously, it will show clearly by how you handle the vision given to you.

Building capacity requires dedication and action. Regularly study and pray to deepen your knowledge and empower yourself (Joshua 1:8). Engage with diverse cultures and develop a broad worldview to effectively spread the Gospel.

Learn from those who have come before you by reading their works and seeking guidance from mentors. Embrace additional responsibilities and contribute actively to your local assembly. If you can do more, do not hesitate.

Observe and participate in what God is doing around you to make a meaningful impact. That is what it means to be visionary!
