“We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work.” — John 9:4 NLT
Welcome to the 19th weekly devotional recap of the year. This week, we saw what it means to live purposefully, the role of pain in fulfilling purpose, the importance of staying focused, and the urgency with which we must pursue our divine assignment.
We began the week by reflecting on what it means to live purposefully (2 Corinthians 5:15). We were created for intimacy with God and to reflect His glory. We were reconciled to God so our relationship with Him can flourish (2 Corinthians 5:15), and He calls us to extend that reconciliation to others (2 Corinthians 5:18). Living purposefully means making God’s purpose our compass and allowing it to shape every part of our lives. You are not here by chance. You were created to reflect God, relate with Him, and reconcile others to Him.
On Tuesday, we were reminded that we are people created by God with a predetermined purpose, so our lives are beyond us (Jeremiah 1:5). We were not made to wander through life seeking meaning, but to align with God’s will (Isaiah 64:8).
Like Jesus, you can walk through life with confidence, knowing that God, who purposed everything, knows what lies ahead and will accomplish all He has determined (Isaiah 46:10, Luke 24:44). When you face difficulties, instead of leaning on your own understanding, you can trust the Father’s plan and walk confidently in purpose.
Wednesday’s article showed us one of the greatest revelations in Scripture: God can use pain to accomplish His purpose. Many times, God uses trials to refine, position, and grow us (Romans 5:3-4). Like Joseph and Jesus, our suffering can serve a greater purpose beyond what we see (Genesis 50:20, Hebrews 12:2).
God does not waste any trial. Pain, though difficult, is not pointless. Even when everything is falling apart, He is putting the pieces together (Romans 8:28). Do not measure your life by comfort alone; measure it by the purpose it serves. In God’s hands, pain can be the very thing that brings your purpose to light.
Thursday’s devotional reminded us that as believers, we no longer live for ourselves but for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:15). Because your purpose on earth is a mission important to God, you cannot afford to lose focus. Staying focused requires meditating on God’s Word, prayer, and setting up structures of accountability (Hebrews 10:24–25).
Our identity and purpose are rooted in Christ, and when we consciously centre our minds on this truth, it keeps us grounded to fulfil our divine assignment. When life becomes overwhelming, remind yourself of who you belong to and how crucial your purpose is to God.
We ended the week with a reminder about the urgency of the purpose to which we were called (John 9:4). Your existence on earth is time-bound, and as a responsible son, this should create in you a sense of urgency to make each day count for God (Ephesians 5:16–17).
Your life is a privilege and an opportunity to do the work of the Father. When Christ returns, let Him find you working (Matthew 24:42–47). Take advantage of every opportunity to see men saved. Let purpose drive you with urgency and make every moment count.
Dear believer, you were created to reflect God, relate with Him, and reconcile others to Him. Step out every day with this consciousness, and let it influence everything that you do.
Have a blessed weekend
