Day 7 (Genesis 18-19, Matthew 6:16-7:6)

According to research published in 2023, about 40.5% of the world’s population has an anxiety disorder*. There seems to be so much to worry about in our day-to-day life, yet Jesus tells us in our reading for today to be anxious for nothing.

In Matthew 6:33, Jesus reminds us that we can live a worry-free life because we are valuable to God and He cares for us. Worry, while futile in itself, also reveals a lack of faith. The ultimate hack to living a life free of anxiety is purpose: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

Just like a soldier does not worry about where to get his gear or food, anyone who devotes their life to seeking God and doing His will will want for nothing.

Listen, the God who created and owns all things cares for you. Like the lyrics of that old song, “If I give God my lifetime, He will take care of me. He will never let me down”. Trust God and give Him your life.

Reflect: How do Jesus’ teachings on not worrying about material needs affect your approach to daily anxieties and trust in God?

17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,

18 So that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly
