“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
In Biology, there is a term known as ‘Metamorphosis’. Metamorphosis is the change of form or nature of an animal from an immature form to an Adult form through different stages. By this transformation, the animal develops adaptive features that help its new nature thrive.
In the same way at salvation, we take on a new nature in Christ by receiving the Holy Spirit to guide our transformation into the fullness of that nature. Our Anchor scripture illuminates the essence of the new nature—a spiritual rebirth that transcends the constraints of our former selves.
Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 5:8 that we were formerly darkness but are now light in the Lord. Christ’s redemptive work affected the very core of our inner being and we are now Children of God (1 John 3: 12) and partakers of God’s divine nature (2 Peter 1:4).
The journey into our new nature is incomplete without the transformative work of the Holy Spirit.
In Romans 12:2, we are charged thus: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” As we surrender our hearts and minds to God’s will, we are continually refined and moulded into the fullness of our identity in him.
In embracing the nature of God, we are called to reflect the character of Christ in all aspects of our lives. Colossians 3:10 urges us to put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge. Through acts of love, kindness, and compassion, we bear witness to the transformative power of God’s love dwelling within us.
By the new nature, we have victory over sin by the Holy Spirit. It is like Romans 6:11)says: “ Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
We have been empowered against the desires of the flesh and now we can live a life worthy of God’s grace. However, embracing our new nature is not without its challenges. Just as the butterfly must struggle to emerge from its cocoon, so we too must confront the obstacles that seek to hinder our spiritual growth. But we are assured that with God’s strength and guidance, we can overcome every obstacle that stands in our way.
Finally, as we have received the life and nature of God, we must make vital what has been made legal for us in Christ Jesus that our light may shine forth before men.
