“But God released him from the horrors of death and raised him back to life, for death could not keep him in its grip.” — Acts 2:22-24 (NLT)
In John 4, the woman at the well was torn between two opposing traditions of worship, uncertain about where true worship truly belonged. Thankfully, she met Jesus, and He shifted her focus from a place of worship to a heart posture; revealing that the worship the Father seeks is in Spirit and Truth. This lesson is still applicable today. Like the Samaritan woman, many still battle with conflicting religious beliefs until they encounter Christ, who is the only Saviour.
In today’s anchor text, Apostle Peter addressed the multitude on the day of Pentecost and revealed a vital and distinguishing fact about the Christian faith: Jesus Christ is the only religious leader endorsed by God. By His resurrection, the Father set Him apart from others who claimed to be gods or prophets and remain dead to this day.
In Romans 6:8-9, Apostle Paul further highlighted that the believer’s faith hinges on the deity and resurrection of Christ. Christ’s victory over death is proof that believers have eternal life. What an assurance!
Also, in John 14:6, our Lord Jesus made a very bold claim; that He is the way, the truth, and the life, signifying that He is the only way to the Father. No one else has made such a claim and fulfilled it. Only Jesus provides saving faith, and this is the crux of Christianity.
Acts 4:12 clearly states that there is no salvation outside the name of Jesus. Ephesians 1:7 also reiterates that redemption and forgiveness of sins can only be received through faith in Christ. No other religious leader or faith has been able to replicate this, and this should be the strength of your conviction.
Colossians 1:27 speaks to the reality that Christ in you is the assurance of a glorious life. You don’t have a Saviour who is far away or one who is unable to save you from sin and death. Your Saviour is alive. Your Saviour is the only one who gives eternal life. Your Saviour lives in you eternally by His Spirit. Glory!
Say this: I thank you, Father, for I know that the gospel is true. Jesus is my Lord, and I believe that in Him I am saved forever.
