Imagine starting a new job and receiving a brand-new phone and laptop. You have the freedom to use these gadgets without anyone constantly monitoring you, but you also understand the expectations. You know these tools serve a purpose, and it would feel odd to leave them idle or to use them for anything other than the work the organisation hired you to do.
That’s how it is with our gifts. God has placed unique skills, talents, and graces in your hands, not by accident but with intention. They are not just for personal growth or to impact the lives of those around you, but primarily to serve His Kingdom. The beauty of a gift lies not only in possessing it but in using it to honour the One who gave it.
As a child of God, you must remember that He created you for His glory. The Bible tells us that all things were created for His pleasure (Revelation 4:11). This includes your voice, your hands, your intellect, your creativity, and everything else you carry. God has entrusted you with these gifts and expects you to offer them back to Him as an act of worship. When you serve with your gifts, you glorify Him.
More than anything, serving with your gifts is a privilege that brings immense joy. You get to partner with God in what He is doing in your day. Every time you design a graphic, clean the chairs, teach a class, sing in the choir, you are honouring God with what He placed in your hands. It may look simple, but there is a purpose to every gift God has given you (1 Peter 4:10).
So how can you honour God with your gifts? Start by asking, “What am I good at?” Think practically. If you’re skilled at organisation, can your church administration use some help? If you teach well, can you serve in the children’s ministry? If you write, is there an editorial team you can support? Not everyone will preach on stage, and that’s perfectly fine. The church is a body, and every part, no matter how seemingly small, is needed for it to grow (Ephesians 4:16). Your service matters, and your role is significant.
Dear believer, your gifts are not mere coincidences. They were given to you by God, and they become fruitful when planted in service. Find your place in the house of God and give your gift back to Him. Serve with joy, serve with humility, and remember it is the greatest honour to be used by God.
