“…Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 2:5 (NKJV)
Welcome to the 47th weekly devotional recap of the year. This week, through different verses in Philippians 2, we were reminded that the Christian life is a Spirit-enabled transformation that reflects Christ to the world.
We began the week with a call to kindness as a visible evidence of the life of Christ within us (Ephesians 4:31-2). Just as a person struck by a truck would bear undeniable evidence, receiving the life of Christ must produce unmistakable fruit in the believer, one of which is kindness. God knows the world you live in and understands that being consistently kind may seem difficult. However, you have both Jesus as your example and the empowerment of the Spirit within you, so kindness to others is now part of your nature (Galatians 5:22).
Tuesday’s devotional encouraged us to represent Jesus well in our conduct. As an ambassador of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), you must intentionally ask, “What would Jesus do?” before responding to situations, because your decisions can build up other believers or hinder those yet to believe. You must be conscious of the influence you yield as a believer to uphold the PR of God. Allow the Holy Spirit to shape your reactions (Philippians 2:13), take the time to reflect before every action, and you will find that you will continue to become more like Christ.
On Wednesday, we learnt that humility is strength under God’s authority, not weakness as the world defines it. Jesus modelled perfect humility by laying aside privilege in order to serve (Philippians 2:5-7). Humility is not passivity but a deliberate submission to God’s will so that your life reflects His heart to those around you. Like David in 1 Samuel 24, trust God’s timing and choose honour over self-promotion. Pride always leads to downfall, but humility shapes you into a servant that God can trust (Proverbs 16:18).
Thursday’s article reminded us that as ambassadors of Christ, our highest motivation must be to reveal God’s glory (Philippians 2:3). Being created in the image of God is a great responsibility. You have been called to be His image-bearer, displaying His nature and His glory wherever you are. Your life is meant to count for something far greater than personal success. Though your aim is not fame or wealth, your pursuit should be marked by excellence, faithfulness, and impact. God has placed you where you are so that you can reveal Him in everything you do (1 Corinthians 10:31).
We ended the week with the comforting truth that God Himself works in us “to will and to do” His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). The Christian life is not sustained by human willpower but by divine empowerment. Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), sustains, keeps, and perfects us as we yield to Him. God is actively shaping your desires, empowering your actions, and working within you to fulfil His purpose. Your responsibility is simple: trust, yield, and continue walking with Him.
Dear believer, the life of Christ in you must be evident. Let kindness flow naturally, walk humbly, pursue God’s purpose above your own, and rest in His power at work within you.
Have a great weekend!
