“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
Ephesians 6:11 NKJV
Welcome to the 37th weekly devotional recap of the year. This week, we finished our series on the elements of the armour of God.
We began the week by learning about the breastplate (Ephesians 6:14). Without the Roman soldier’s breastplate, his heart and other vital organs were vulnerable to attack. In the same way, when we put on the breastplate of righteousness, we stand against the lies of the enemy because we know we are justified and accepted in Christ (Romans 5:1, Galatians 2:16). God has equipped you with this armour by giving you righteousness as a gift. Your part is to put it on daily to remind yourself of this truth and let it guard your heart.
On Tuesday, we learnt about the shoes of the gospel of peace (Ephesians 6:15). Just as proper footwear prepares you for a journey, the gospel equips you with stability, confidence, and readiness. To put on these shoes is to step into each day with confidence in Christ’s authority. It means praying with boldness, resisting Satan’s schemes without retreat, and pulling down the deceits of the devil in false doctrines and gospels that keep people from seeing the light of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
On Wednesday, we learnt about the shield of faith (Ephesians 6:16). The enemy constantly throws fiery darts of fear, doubt, and accusation, but faith is your shield against them all. To live by faith is to rest in what Christ has accomplished: His death silenced condemnation (Romans 8:1), His resurrection secured your victory, and His Word remains your unshakable foundation. Without faith, you are vulnerable, but with it, you are covered. Each time the devil whispers a lie, raise your shield by declaring God’s truth and standing firm in confidence.
Thursday’s devotional taught us about the helmet of salvation (Ephesians 6:17). Just as a helmet protects the brain, the engine of the body, the helmet of salvation guards the believer’s mind. In the heat of battle, the mind can be your strongest weapon or weakest point, so the enemy targets it with doubt and deception to weaken you and gain ground in your life (Genesis 3:1–6). By filling your mind with God’s Word, you silence lies and walk in the confidence of who you are—saved, sealed, and secure—in Christ (Romans 10:9; Ephesians 1:13–14).
We ended the week with the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17). The Word is not only for defence; it is your weapon for fighting back, tearing down lies, and enforcing victory over the enemy. It helps you discern between feelings and truth, and between what is right and what only sounds like it. You have an advantage in the Word; don’t be afraid to use it. Intentionally study, memorise, and meditate on it until it takes root in your heart. Then you will stand firm and dismantle every plan of the devil.
Dear believer, you are fully equipped. Put on every piece of the armour daily; none of them is optional. You were not only called to fight, but to stand and win.
Have a blessed weekend!
