WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL RECAP

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” – Matthew 6:33 NLT

Welcome to the 20th weekly devotional recap of the year, this week we learnt to place true value where it belongs and were reminded that there is more to life than earthly desires.

We started the week with a reminder that there is more to life than money. Money is a good resource to have in our vastly capitalistic world. However, this does not mean we should center our whole lives around the pursuit of it (Luke 12:15). We desire peace, purpose at our core, and an unhealthy love of money can distract us from God’s presence and stifle our discernment (1 Timothy 6:10).  We were encouraged to always remember that God is our ultimate source and thus put money in its place.

On Tuesday, we learnt that there is more to life than popularity. We were created to know God and to make Him known. Hence, we should use whatever visibility, online or physically, to point men to Christ and help them see Him more clearly (Matthew 5:16). As believers, we do not live for the approval of men, but to glorify God  (Galatians 1:10). Choose today to be a light to the world!

Wednesday’s article challenged our innate desire to be accepted. As believers, we have to decide what matters most to us. Is it to please God or people? Sometimes, standing with God would mean walking alone (John 6: 66-69). We have been accepted by God into His family and this truth shold be the basis of our identity. Remember, only God can satisfy our hearts (John 4:13-14).

On Thursday, we were reminded that material things only bring temporary happiness. Chasing happiness alone will leave us empty. Jesus and His disciples led lives of sacrifice, not constant comfort (Matthew 8:20). Real joy comes from walking in purpose and serving God daily (Psalm 16:11). Let us choose joy, peace, and fulfillment through the Holy Spirit—even when life isn’t easy.

We wrapped up the week by looking at our careers. God wants us to prosper in our endeavors. But, we can only truly prosper when we use our career as a vehicle to fulfill purpose and not to just amass wealth (Luke 12:15). Just like David whose eyes always stayed God, we also should seek to glorify God by making Him our priority in all things (Matthew 6:33)

Child of God, do not give in to the lure of worldly desires. God should always take first place in your life, focus on Him.

Have a wonderful weekend!
