WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL RECAP

And then he told them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.’” – Mark 16:15 NLT

Welcome to the 34th weekly devotional recap of the year. This week, we discussed the mindset and different approaches needed to make Christ known in the secular world.

On Monday, we learned that when it comes to the gospel, there are no grey areas. For lies and half-truths to die, the truth has to be known and shared (2 Timothy 2:15, 2 Corinthians 4:2). Emphasise the gospel everywhere you find yourself, especially in secular spaces. Find ways to express and spread the knowledge you have received in your spheres of influence, because it is a much-needed light in this dark world.

Tuesday’s article taught us that the “why” behind our actions is often more important than the “what.” This principle is crucial for believers, because love should be the driving force behind everything we do (I Corinthians 13:1-3). Beware of performing the actions of spiritual devotion– including having influence and reaching the world for Jesus– for any reason other than that He commands it (Matthew 28:18-20). Let your actions be shaped by pure intentions, bringing glory to God (Romans 8:14, Galatians 5:16).

Wednesday’s devotional reminded us that the gospel is good news and should be presented as such. While there is a warning in the message of salvation (Matthew 13:49-50), it shouldn’t be communicated in a way that induces fear, knowing that the words we use can either cause instant rejection or stir hearts toward Christ (Proverbs 15:1). The world knows how to allure with words, so as we aim to influence the secular world, our words must communicate love (Ephesians 4:15). Don’t be the reason someone rejects the message—speak with gentleness and respect.

On Thursday, we saw that we are called to live a radical life of faith and allegiance to God and His purpose, and this must be evident for the world to see. Like Jesus, our service to God must be with zeal and enthusiasm (John 2:16-17, Romans 12:11). Be determined to show your radical allegiance to the cause of God, and let it be unmistakably visible that God’s love has completely consumed you.

Finally, on Friday, we were encouraged to use the right approach to spread the gospel. A seasoned salesman can talk you into buying any product by speaking with conviction and urgency, and this is how we should approach evangelism. The gospel comes with a sense of urgency, as life on earth is fleeting (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2). Like the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:28-30), boldly run with the message you have received, knowing it has the power to save people from eternal damnation (Luke 24:47-48).

Dear believer, the gospel is light that can bring illumination to this dark world. Be conscious of the fact that there is a right motive, a right approach, and a right mindset to have when communicating it to the world.
