THE CHURCH AND MEDIA

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”

Matthew 13:44 (NKJV)

We find it effortless to remember lessons learned through films, knowledge gained through songs, and stories we once heard. Even for babies, they begin their learning process through rhymes, songs and pictures. This proves that the media not only entertains but also educates, influences, and forms convictions without seeking permission.

The world understands the power of media and utilises it effectively to shape culture and disseminate ideology. As a believer, you can not afford to be passive. We have a message with eternal value and must employ every necessary means to spread it. The mission is clear: to see all men saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). If that is truly our goal, we must begin to think about influence and reach.

You have been called to be light; you are not supposed to be hidden (Matthew 5:14-15). If our assignment is to evangelise the world, then we cannot think small; we must get into spaces that the world pays attention to. We cannot ignore the power of the media if we must reach the people who need to hear the message. Moreso, the world is already preaching its truth. Through music, films, books, and social media, ideologies are being pushed every day. While the world creates, many believers criticise, but the time has come to rise and leave the sidelines. You don’t have to be a content creator to make a difference, but you can lend your voice. Be intentional about supporting content that honours God. Influence belongs to the bold.

If God has given you a gift in the creative space, don’t be reluctant to shine your light; it is not humility to bury the gifts of God in you. No one lights a candle to be put under a bushel (Matthew 5:15). Use your social media platforms to promote godly values, let your work be clean, excellent, and rooted in truth. You are fighting for space, so your work must outshine those doing it for earthly rewards.

Dear believer, what gift has God placed in your hand? A voice? A pen? A camera? Use it and amplify it in your world. Be subtle in your approach but loud with the truth.
