“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17 (NIV)
Have you ever experienced a relationship that seemed like it was orchestrated by God Himself? These connections—whether through a mentor, a loyal friend, or a ministry partner—often reveal His hand in our lives. They draw us closer to Him, refine us, and help us accomplish His purposes. God uses supernatural relationships to bless and grow us, but embracing them requires discernment, humility, and an open heart.
In this new year, many of us carry God-given visions and instructions that cannot be fulfilled in isolation. Scripture reminds us in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 that two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labour. God, in His wisdom, brings people into our lives to partner with us, hold us accountable, or even show us what’s possible through Him. These divine connections often come unexpectedly, yet they are intentional appointments from God to align us with His plans.
Take the example of Jonathan and David. Jonathan’s loyalty and sacrificial love protected David, even at great personal risk (1 Samuel 18:1-4). Their bond strengthened their faith and advanced God’s purpose for Israel. Similarly, God places people in our lives to encourage, challenge, and guide us toward fulfilling His plans. Recognizing His hand in these relationships allows us to embrace them with gratitude and a willingness to grow.
Yet, our human nature often gets in the way. Pride can make us feel too independent to need others or too unworthy to accept help (Proverbs 16:18). Fear of rejection or vulnerability may cause us to pull back, but God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7).
Past hurts can also make us hesitant to trust again. However, God is in the business of restoration. As Isaiah 43:18-19 reminds us, He does a new thing, making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. When we trust Him with our relationships, He brings healing and renewal, enabling us to open our hearts to His blessings.
Not every connection is from God. While He orchestrates divine relationships, the enemy may introduce distractions to derail us. Discernment, guided by the Holy Spirit, is crucial to identify relationships that align with God’s purpose. Ask Him for wisdom in prayer. Reflect on the fruit of the relationship—does it draw you closer to God or pull you away? Seek counsel from trusted spiritual mentors, and approach each connection with humility, knowing that God works through them for His glory (Philippians 2:3).
Supernatural relationships are gifts. They sharpen us, as iron sharpens iron, and help us grow in faith and purpose. They provide opportunities to serve others, experience God’s love, and fulfil His plans for our lives. Let us approach these connections with open hearts, gratitude, and a willingness to learn and grow. When we embrace the people God has placed in our lives, we align ourselves with His greater purpose and experience the beauty of His design.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the people You bring into my life. Help me to recognize and embrace the supernatural relationships You have ordained for me. Give me the humility to learn, the courage to love, and the wisdom to discern. May these connections draw me closer to You and fulfil Your purpose in my life. Amen
