SEEK DIRECTION

So David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.” – 1 Samuel 30:8 NKJV

Have you ever returned to a neighbourhood you once lived in, only to find it so changed that you couldn’t navigate it anymore? You had to stop and ask for directions to get back on track. In the same way, as a believer, you must consistently ask God for direction, no matter how familiar you are with the journey.

Our anchor scripture tells of a moment in David’s life when he returned home to find his city raided and his people taken captive. Instinct might say: act fast, chase them down, fight back. But David didn’t rush. Instead, he paused and asked God for guidance on what to do next.

You must recognize that your knowledge, strength, and connections are not always enough. It is God who works in you, and that’s why before every step, you must pause and ask: “Lord, what would You have me do?”

This described posture of dependence is key to living a life of purpose. Heroes of faith, such as Abraham, Moses, and the disciples, fulfilled their calling by relying on God’s guidance. The same is true for you. The vision belongs to God, and only He can show you how to carry it out. Seeking His direction is essential to walking in purpose.

Furthermore, seeking direction becomes easier when you remember that God is always willing to lead you (Psalm 32:8). You don’t need to strive; position yourself to receive what He has already made available.

Position yourself by involving Him in both the small and big decisions of your life. Bring your questions to Him in prayer, no matter how ordinary or overwhelming they may seem. Ask Him what to do concerning any situation, and then trust that He has heard you. He promises to lead those who seek Him.

Finally, dear believer, seeking direction is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of faith. It shows that you trust God to lead you beyond your understanding. As you acknowledge Him in all your decisions, He will direct your steps according to His will. This is not only wise, but also the best way to live.
