“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” – Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)
Imagine an electronic gadget malfunctioning—not because of broken hardware, but because of unseen software errors. Similarly, this physical world is controlled by invisible spiritual forces that affect the outcome of events. As a believer, you are expected to be alert and ready to resist the enemy when he shows up.
Today’s anchor text makes it clear: you are at war, not exactly with human beings, but with spiritual entities. Negative activities are often influenced by demonic spirits, and you don’t overcome them by fighting people. As 2 Corinthians 10:3 highlights, though you live in a physical world, your battles are not physical. There is a demand on you to be alert and discerning always, because you live in a world where nothing just happens without a spiritual element.
As someone up against spiritual forces, you must also know that you have been equipped with supernatural weapons and abilities. Zechariah 4:6 reminds you that spiritual battles are won by the Spirit of God, not by human effort. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says your weapons are mighty through God. They are powerful enough to pull down strongholds, silence the lies of the enemy, and bring every thought into submission to God’s Word. In Ephesians 6:13-17, the Word of God is likened to a warrior’s armour. Always remember that you have the advantage, and God’s Word is your greatest weapon against the enemy.
Jesus also had this mindset. He never approached life superficially. By discernment, He knew when the Father was at work and when the devil was responsible. In Luke 13:11-13, a woman had been bent over for eighteen years. Jesus did not call it old age or arthritis; He declared that Satan had bound her (v.16). Then He rebuked the spirit, laid hands on her, and she was healed.
You, too, have received authority to subdue the powers of the enemy, as recorded in Luke 10:19. The devil should not have a field day around you—you have what it takes to stop his activities and enforce God’s will.
Dear believer, in life’s battle, you are not alone or defenceless. You have the power of God by His Spirit. You have the word of God and your faith as a shield. Therefore, you have the advantage.
Say this: I have received authority in the name of Jesus. I exercise my authority in Christ over darkness and demon spirits, and I walk victoriously every day of my life.
