LAMP TO MY FEET; LIGHT TO MY PATH

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” Psalm 119:105 (NKJV)

Have you ever used your phone’s flashlight during a blackout? The room is pitch dark and you can’t see the whole path, but you can see just enough to take the next step. That’s how God’s Word often works. It may not reveal the entire journey, but it always shines enough light for the step in front of you.

God never promised to show us everything at once, but He promised His Word would guide us daily. Unlike batteries that die out, His Word never fades. It is reliable, unchanging, and full of truth (Isaiah 40:8).  Staying on course means walking closely with it and relying on His guidance with daily trust and dependence. God’s Word isn’t a mystery hidden for a few; it’s clear, accessible, and life-giving. It nourishes us daily, just as bread sustains the body (Matthew 4:4).

In Deuteronomy 11, God told the Israelites that obedience to His Word would bring strength, longevity, and fruitfulness in the land He gave them. His Word wasn’t just advice, it was a covenant of life and preservation (Deuteronomy 11:8–9; 30:11–14). Obedience kept them under His care, enjoying His promises and flourishing in the land He brought them into. The same holds true today. As we yield to His Word, we’re formed into people who walk with God, not merely work for Him.

Life often brings twists and unseen obstacles; temptation, confusion, and false paths that appear safe but can lead us off course. In those moments, God’s Word becomes our steady guide, guiding us like headlights on a winding road. When we study His Word, we gain discernment and avoid missteps as we walk in it (Psalm 119:133).

Jesus, our ultimate example, didn’t just speak God’s Word, He embodied it (John 1:1). Through Him, we see exactly what it looks like to live in full alignment with the Father (John 1:14). Every word He spoke and every step He took reflected the Word and will of the Father (John 5:19). He didn’t walk in darkness, and as His children we don’t have to either (John 8:12).

To live without God’s Word is to walk without direction. But when you hold onto it, your steps are secure, even when the path ahead isn’t clear (Psalm 37:23). The path may not be smooth, but it is always sure. God may not reveal everything at once, but He gives us what we need for the step in front of us.

As you go into the day, let this be your conviction: God’s Word is the lamp to your feet and the light to your path. Let it light your feet, steady your walk, and lead you safely forward, one faithful step at a time.
