KEEP HOPE ALIVE

“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God!” (Psalm 43:5 NLT)

Think of a seed buried in the soil. To the untrained eye, it seems lifeless and without purpose. Yet, beneath the surface, a transformation is taking place. When the season changes, the seed will sprout and bloom. Our hope in God works the same way—it sustains us through life’s seasons, reminding us that a new season is coming where His plans will flourish.

Our anchor text captures emotions that some of us are familiar with; sadness and discouragement, emotions we all face. While salvation fills us with joy (Isaiah 12:3), we still experience moments of sorrow. Even Jesus felt these same emotions, saying, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death” (Matthew 26:38). God doesn’t demand that we suppress these emotions but invites us to bring them to Him and find renewed hope in His presence.

Hopelessness often arises from situations that appear impossible. Physical death, for instance, seems final. When Lazarus died, his family was consumed by grief. Martha lamented to Jesus, “If you had been here, my brother would not have died.” Yet, Jesus transformed their despair into hope, raising Lazarus after four days in the grave. This miracle foreshadowed the ultimate hope found in Christ’s resurrection, the cornerstone of our faith (1 Peter 1:3).

Perception plays a key role in hopelessness (Numbers 13:33). What seems hopeless often reflects our limited view of what is possible. When Abraham and Sarah faced the impossibility of bearing children in old age, Abraham chose to believe God’s promise against all odds. His hope, rooted in God’s word, was not in vain (Romans 4:18).

Scripture reminds us that our challenges are not unique (Romans 15:4). Ecclesiastes declares, “There is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). The enemy isolates us by claiming that no one understands our struggles. Still, countless believers have faced similar battles and triumphed through God’s grace.

Like the Psalmist, speak to your soul: “I will put my hope in God” (Psalm 43:5). Anchor yourself in His promises and declare them boldly over your life. As you align your thoughts with His word, hope will rise, and despair will fade.

Remember that no matter how dire your circumstances may be, the same God who breathed life into dry bones, fulfilled Abraham’s promise and delivered David’s victory, will also come through in your life.

Place your hope in Him, for He will never fail.
