“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” – Acts 4:12 (NKJV)
It is common knowledge that when a person is approaching the end of their life, whether due to age or illness, they tend to prepare their final wishes. Their final words often carry the deepest weight, revealing what they want loved ones to remember and act upon.
In the same way, just before Jesus went to the cross, He gave Peter an explicit instruction: “Feed My sheep.” This illustrates the importance to God of sharing the truth. Paul echoed this in 1 Timothy 2:2–4, declaring that God’s desire is for all people to come to the knowledge of the truth. Scripture even tells us that heaven rejoices over just one sinner who repents. If our hearts are aligned with God’s heart, we will also long to see souls saved and that means we must preach the gospel.
Romans 10:14 reminds us that people cannot believe in the One they have not heard about, and they cannot hear without someone telling them. Our lives should reflect Christ, but lifestyle alone is not the gospel. A good example might pique someone’s curiosity, but only the message of Jesus saves. The gospel is God’s power for salvation, and without it, there is no hope for eternal life. The only thing that can save is the gospel, and the only way some can be saved is by believing, and the only way to think is to hear the message.
Also, if we don’t preach, men will be damned eternally, as our anchor scripture says that there is no other name under heaven by which men can be saved. The gospel is the power of God unto salvation, without which there is no salvation. When we preach the gospel, we demonstrate the love of God for humanity (John 3:16), and it is worth it to share this world with God’s reassuring love.
Furthermore, obeying God will always be worth it. Jesus commands us to go into all the world preaching the gospel. These were his final words to his disciples, instructing them to preach the gospel to all nations. (Matthew 28:18-20). Likewise, we have been given the responsibility to preach the gospel. (2 Cor 5:18-21). Our desire should be to do the desire of the one who has called us to his fold.
This is the heartbeat of the Church, which is to be equipped through sound teaching and through the gifts that Christ has given. These gifts are the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. Their purpose is to build up the body of Christ so that we may be fully prepared to carry out the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11–14). Proclaiming the gospel is not a side task; it is the very core of who we are as believers.
Dear believer, rise to your calling. God is counting on you to carry His message of hope to those who have never heard it.
