“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” – Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)
At some point, many of us have experienced the sting of giving selflessly, only to feel that our kindness was taken advantage of. It may have left you wondering if giving was worth it, vowing never to be so open-hearted again. These feelings are valid; it’s natural to want to protect ourselves after being hurt. But as believers, we are called to a higher standard—a heart that continues to give, knowing that true joy is found not in the act of receiving but in giving (Acts 20:35). We’re encouraged not to grow weary of doing good, even when past experiences may tempt us to stop.
Our reasons for giving matter deeply. Do we give for recognition, future favours, or validation? Or do we give to be a channel of blessing, mirroring God’s mercy and goodness? Scripture reminds us that God sees quiet acts of generosity and rewards them in His time (Matthew 6:3–4). Giving with a pure heart brings blessings that often reach beyond the moment, sometimes planting seeds that impact others even if we never see the harvest.
Every act of kindness is a seed with the potential to bear incredible fruit (Hebrews 13:2). The Bible shows how generosity brings God’s favour: Abraham’s hospitality led to a promise of Isaac (Genesis 18:1–10), and Cornelius’s charity brought an angelic visit and salvation for his family (Acts 10). These stories remind us that selfless giving often leads to unexpected blessings.
As believers, we are encouraged to do good to all whenever we have the opportunity (Galatians 6:10). This can mean supporting charitable causes, contributing to the work of God, honouring and celebrating leaders, or giving to those in need (Proverbs 19:17). Giving is not just about money; it includes our time, skills, and resources. Every form of generosity, big or small, counts and contributes to building a more loving and compassionate world.
Remember that it’s essential to approach generosity with discernment and wisdom. While giving is a beautiful act, it’s important to seek God’s guidance on how to do so in ways that align with His will and bring Him glory. We should pray for wisdom to recognise genuine needs, steward our resources well, and serve others in a way that reflects God’s love and care.
When we give from a place of wisdom and love, our generosity becomes a true reflection of God’s heart.
