“He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be. Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.”
Genesis 15:5-6 NIV
A camera aperture controls how much light enters the lens and reaches the sensor, determining the exposure and focus of an image. Similarly, the human mind acts as a filter, dictating how much of God’s word and promises we internalize. Left unchecked, our thoughts and perceptions can limit us. But God’s way is infinitely superior to ours (Isaiah 55:9). That’s why aligning your vision with God’s perspective is essential.
The first part of 2 Corinthians 5:17 is familiar: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” But notice the instruction in the same verse—it says to behold this reality. This is profound! You can be new in Christ yet still live with an old mindset if you fail to see yourself as God sees you. To walk in God’s purpose, you must first envision yourself through His lens of grace and possibility.
In today’s anchor text, God met Abram in a vision. At the time, Abram was burdened with anxiety because he had no biological child, and his only heir was his servant, Eliezer of Damascus (Genesis 15:2-3). Instead of trusting God for the fulfilment of His promise, Abram asked for consolation. But God didn’t let him settle. He took Abram outside and told him to count the stars—a visual representation of the countless descendants God had planned for him.
This wasn’t the first time God used imagery to stretch Abram’s faith. Earlier, in Genesis 13:14-17, God promised Abram the land of Canaan and descendants as numerous as the dust of the earth. But Abram had to see it—he had to walk through the land and imagine the fulfilment of God’s promise. Faith, at its core, is seeing through God’s eyes and interacting with His promises before they manifest.
Maybe you’ve already mapped out your plans for 2025. Have you paused to check in with God? This is your call to open your heart and dream with Him. God is inviting you to step out of the limitations you’ve placed on yourself and behold the greater things He has prepared for you. Dare to see beyond your plans and align with His vision.
Say this: Father, I dare to dream with You. In 2025, let my life align with Your promises and unfold just as You have said.
