Welcome to the Triumph 30 Bible in One Year Reading Plan!
Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start! We’ll look into the books of Genesis and Matthew.
The book of Genesis tells the story of the creation of the world, the introduction of sin and the history of mankind through the lens of the Israelites. God’s promise to restore the world to Himself starts here.
The book of Matthew is one of the four Gospels. “Gospel”, here, simply means “good news”. It’s not a literary genre. Therefore, the Gospel of Matthew means the Good News as told by Matthew.
In our readings for today – Genesis 1-2 and Matthew 1, we see a connected theme of the intentionality of God.
Genesis 1 -2 launches us into the fascinating creation story. The intricate details that God put in place to ensure the environment we live in exists, speak volumes about His nature. The creation story is a well-thought-out plan of God and He didn’t make any mistakes nor did He regret it. The Bible records that after He was done, God looked at the work He did and said it was good as if to pat Himself on the back to say what an exceptional One you are!
In Matthew 1, we see His intentionality in the genealogy of Jesus. The importance of the genealogy is not lost on us. Throughout scripture, God declared the lineage of the Messiah to the Israelites and the world. Who would have thought that tracing a family tree would be such an intricate show of God’s intentionality and the fulfilment of prophecy?
This goes to show that nothing happens by accident. You are not here by accident. God who has formed and placed you where you are has indeed thought of you and wants to show off with you. The Bible says He knows every hair on our head and not one strand falls to the ground without His knowledge.
Reflect: Take time to reflect on the intentionality of God in every area of your life.
Pray: Father, I thank you for your intentionality in my life. Help me to walk in obedience to your word, trusting that your intentions are always for my good, even when the path is difficult.
