BY THE SPIRIT

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” – Galatians 5:25 (NKJV)

What if you woke up tomorrow with superpowers? Imagine being able to fly or run 50 km in a second, faster than anyone on Earth. You’d probably jump right into testing your new skills out, right? You’d want to see just how far you could go. Exciting, right? However, we have something more to be excited about. Our new life through Jesus Christ is powered by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:11). Hence, we are instructed to walk in the Spirit; to yield to Him, and exercise the supernatural abilities God has placed inside us by His Spirit.

Jesus didn’t just give us a pep talk when He said we’d do greater works than He did (John 14:12). He was inviting us to step into a supernatural lifestyle, powered by the Holy Spirit. Why settle for ordinary? The Holy Spirit lives in you, and that changes everything. Just like a superhero discovering their powers, you should be eager to explore the gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4-11).

You are not just an upgraded version of your old self simply living ‘better’ than before. With the Holy Spirit, you’re a completely new creation living the life of Christ (Galatians 2:20). You carry supernatural potential because God’s Spirit is active within you (2 Peter 1:4). His gifts aren’t locked away for a select few – they’re yours to work with. The Spirit doesn’t just want to be a quiet influence; He wants to shape you to produce fruits consistent with the life of Christ (Galatians 5:22).

The Holy Spirit also enables us to overcome sin’s grip (Romans 6:3-4, 11-14). We have been made partakers in Christ’s victory over sin, so do not be fooled by your fleeting feelings when victory seems distant. Jesus rose from the dead to conquer sin and to break its hold over you such that you are no longer a helpless slave to sin; you are free (Romans 6:6).

This is more than just resisting temptation. It’s about living out your true identity. Everything changes when you recognise that you’re dead to sin and alive to God (Romans 6:11). The Holy Spirit is the driving force behind your ability to live righteously. You are no longer trying to live up to a standard, you are living by a new standard. So, don’t hold back. Feed your Spirit with God’s Word and fix your heart on who you are in Christ.

You have an inner compass that points you toward a life above sin. Embrace the power, activate the gifts (2 Timothy 1:6-8), and yield to let the Spirit within you (Galatians 5:16). There’s no limit to what you can do when you truly live by the Spirit.
