“Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.” – Ephesians 2:20 NLT
In a world like ours, it is inevitable to seek comfort, hope and clarity on what life entails. This has spurred people to seek spiritual enlightenment in the wrong places. It has led to an increase in man-made religions and false teachings. However, as the body of Christ with the truth of the Gospel, we must begin to consider ways to change this narrative.
It is God’s desire that we are not alone. In fact, sin and false teachings are more likely to be birthed in isolation and secrecy. The church is thus God’s orchestrated structure to be enlightened in His word. It is the foundation to be rooted and grounded in knowledge, faith as well as understanding of who we are in Christ.
From our anchor verse, we see that we are God’s house, and together we are His church (Hebrews 3:6). As the church, we do not obtain spiritual enlightenment from our inner selves, philosophies, or theories; instead, we have our anchor in the word of God and what it says.
Attempting to seek hope and enlightenment outside the Gospel is like seeking light in a dark room. Therefore, we need to develop a culture of continuously reading our Bible and attending a Bible-believing church. The church helps strengthen our faith and conviction. The church aids spiritual growth and accountability. In a world where false ideologies and teachings are tossed to and fro, the church helps us grow in our knowledge of God’s word.
This gives you more reason to preach the Gospel in love. Let the Gospel prevail and spread on your account (2 Timothy 4:2). Raise disciples and encourage them to join a Bible-believing church. Individually, we can do a lot, but together, we can do much more (1 Corinthians 12:27). Together, we can reveal Christ to the world.
The more we know Christ, fellowship together and align ourselves with His will, the more we are enlightened in Him. The family of God and fellowship with the brethren shouldn’t be an option but a necessity. Prayerfully seek to be planted in a church; be committed and invite someone as well.
PRAYER: Lord, I thank you for the light of your glorious Gospel in Christ. Let me grow more and more in the knowledge of Christ. I make a commitment today to stay planted and shine for others to see the light of the Gospel.
