“This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” – 1 John 4:10-11 NKJV.
Just as the world testifies to the existence of God, your actions can reflect His love. Consider the way a mother loves her child—unconditionally, selflessly, and sacrificially. In similar ways, God’s love can be demonstrated through everyday acts: in the care you show others, the hospitality you extend to the needy, and the blessings you offer. Dear believer, you are called to mirror this love in all that you do.The greatest commandment in the Bible is love. You are called to love God first, and then to love others (Matthew 22:37-39).
Jesus made it clear that loving God involves taking care of His people—His sheep (John 21:15-17). When you care for others, you express your love for God. This is both a commandment and the proof of your identity in Christ Jesus (John 13: 34-35).Loving Jesus means following His example. How then did Jesus love, and how are you to follow Him? Firstly, Jesus demonstrated sacrificial love by laying down His life for you on the cross (John 15:13).
To love like Jesus means you must be willing to sacrifice your comfort, your time, or your resources for the sake of others knowing about His love and experiencing salvation. You must preach the Gospel. While sacrificial love involves giving of oneself, unconditional love takes it even further.
Jesus didn’t wait for you to deserve His love. Even when you were undeserving, He loved you completely and without reservation (Romans 5:8). He calls you to do the same—loving others not because of what they can offer in return, but because love is about reflecting His heart. In addition, Jesus exemplified love through service. He spent His life serving others, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, and washing His disciples’ feet (Matthew 15:30, Mark 6:31-44, John 13).
Loving like Jesus means having other’s well-being in mind and finding joy in serving them. True freedom lies in serving others with a heart full of love (Galatians 5:13).
Dear believer, loving like Christ is not always easy, but it is always possible because He first loved you and has given you His nature. You have received His love, and now you are called to share that love with others. Let the world experience God’s love through you.
