BE AN EXAMPLE: CONDUCT

“In all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility.” — Titus 2:7 (NKJV)

It was a small moment: someone raised their voice at a church leader over a misunderstanding, something that could get anyone angry. A young believer noticed, curious about what the older member would do. Then, with great wisdom, the leader diffused the situation, made peace with the person, and even invited them to church. No one addressed the young believer, yet a powerful lesson was taught. Sometimes, our actions speak even louder than our words.

While this may not always be the case, there are moments when actions can become a powerful form of communication. As followers of Christ, our lives are always speaking. Whether we realise it or not, someone is learning what faith looks like by watching us. Paul reminded Timothy, “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12, NKJV). People may forget our words, but they rarely forget how we live.

Conduct is not about perfection; it’s about reflection. The way we handle our secular work, respond to others, regard authority, handle correction, or show kindness reveals who we truly follow. Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16 NKJV). True light doesn’t need to announce itself; it simply shines.

Our example can either draw people closer to Christ or make them question Him. That’s why Peter urged believers to keep their conduct honourable among unbelievers, so that even through quiet observation, they may glorify God (1 Peter 2:12). This applies to every sphere of our lives. Whether within or outside church services, our conduct should always mirror Christ and His standards.

Beloved, someone is always watching: a child, a colleague, a neighbour, a new convert. Let your actions teach as powerfully as your words. When our conduct is marked by love, humility, and integrity, our lives become living sermons of the gospel.

Let your life tell the story of Christ’s grace. Be the example that points others to Him.
