“For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” – Philippians 2:13 (NKJV)
Over the past month, we have looked at how we must conduct ourselves as believers in different aspects of our lives. As a result, there can be the temptation to look to yourself, exerting more willpower to do these things. This should not be the case.
God never called you to walk the Christian life in your own strength. Our anchor text reveals that every desire for righteousness, every act of obedience, every step toward spiritual maturity begins with Him. You are not the engine of your transformation; God is. He is actively shaping your desires, empowering your actions, and working within you to fulfil His purpose. You don’t live the Christian life by trying harder; you live it by surrendering deeper.
The writer of Hebrews describes Jesus as “the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). This truth anchors your soul when you feel weary or insufficient. Jesus initiated your faith; He wrote the first line of your story. But He didn’t stop there; He is also the finisher, the One who perfects, strengthens, and completes what He started. When you feel like you are not enough, remember that He already knew your weaknesses and still committed Himself to perfecting you. Your faith journey is held together by His constancy, not your consistency.
And as you walk with Him, there is an assurance covering your steps. God is not only transforming you; He is keeping you. His power guards your heart. His grace sustains your walk. His Spirit strengthens your convictions. Even when you feel your footing slipping, He upholds you. His ability to keep you is greater than your ability to fail. (Jude 1:24). Let your heart rest in this simple but profound truth: God is working in you. Yield to Him. Trust Him.
In your everyday life, yielding looks like running to God when you stumble instead of hiding. Studying His Word and letting it reshape the way you think. Paying attention to His presence throughout your day and obeying His promptings. As you do this, you will find strength that is not your own and progress that reveals His hand at work.
Dear believer, God, not your willpower, is at work in you, and He never fails. He will complete what He started. Even in those moments when faith feels hard to hold on to, He is both authoring and perfecting it within you. Your part is to trust Him. He will keep you till the very end.
