“…the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” — Ephesians 6:17 (NKJV)
Imagine a football team made up of only defenders—no strikers, no midfielders, no one to push forward. The defence may be solid, and the team may hold back every attack, but at the end of the day, a team can’t win a match if it doesn’t score. That’s what it’s like to walk through life without the Word of God.
God didn’t call you to only hold the line. He called you to press forward and to take ground. The Word is not just for your defence, it is your sword—your weapon for fighting back, tearing down lies, and enforcing victory.
The Word of God is alive and powerful. It cuts through confusion, exposes what’s false, and brings what’s true into the light. It helps you discern between feelings and truth, between what sounds right and what is right. When you hold on to the Word, it gives clarity, convicts the heart, and strengthens your convictions (Hebrews 4:12).
The enemy’s oldest strategy is deception. From Eden to now, his tactic remains the same; to twist the truth, plant doubt, and weaken your resolve. His aim is to make you question what God has said and lose sight of your identity in Christ. However, you are not left defenceless. You have the Word—and the Word is enough.
When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He didn’t respond with emotions or debates. He answered with the Word. That’s how He overcame—and that’s how you will overcome. You don’t reason or negotiate with the devil; you stand on what God has spoken. That is how you win—by holding firm to God’s truth and declaring it with boldness (Matthew 4:1–11).
God’s Word is not for decoration; it is for declaration. You don’t study the Bible just to feel spiritual. It’s not meant to sit unopened on a shelf or be buried under distractions. Open it, read it, and meditate on it until it forms your thoughts, fills your words, and guides your actions. Let it dwell richly in you, for the Word will steady you and keep you from stumbling when temptation comes (Psalm 119:11).
Dear believer, God has given you His Word, and it is your advantage. Don’t be afraid to use it. Intentionally study, memorise, and meditate on it until it takes root in your heart. Then you will stand firm and dismantle every plan of the devil. With the Word, you will move forward, score, and secure the victory Christ has already won.
