THE CHURCH AND TECHNOLOGY

“For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” – Romans 1:20 (NLT)

Many people today feel they must choose between science and faith, as if believing in one cancels out the other. Questions like ‘How was the earth formed?’ or ‘Where did humans come from?’ often push people to doubt the existence of God, as though scientific explanations leave no room for the Creator. Yet the rise of technology does not signal the absence of God. Instead, it has become one of the most excellent tools for the church to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The anchor scripture reminds you that the brilliance of technology should not turn your heart from God but rather point you back to Him as Creator. Since we believe that God made all things, science does not create truth; it simply uncovers the principles and designs He already set in place (Psalm 19:1).

From the beginning, God has invited humanity to explore and steward His creation. (Genesis 1:26-28). Every technological advancement or man-made object originates from resources that God placed within creation.

When you operate in this creative capacity, you reflect the image of God Himself.

This God-given creativity has shaped history, giving rise to innovations that transformed society and impacted the church. We see this in technological advances across healthcare, education, and communication. One striking example is Johannes Gutenberg (c. 1400–1468), whose invention of the printing press revolutionised communication. More than a scientific milestone, it became a spiritual turning point, enabling the mass production of the Bible.

As a believer, your approach to science and technology should be marked by worship and gratitude. You magnify God for granting wisdom to invent, innovate, and explore, and in doing so, you keep your awe of Him above all other things.

You are not merely an observer of technological advancements. You are to engage with it for the advancement of God’s kingdom. You can contribute by creating innovations or by using existing tools to deepen your faith. The T30 app, for example, utilises technology to help believers engage with God’s Word on a  daily basis. When you utilise technology in this way, you are not just keeping up with the times; you are actively transforming modern tools into instruments for the gospel.

Ultimately, science and technology are not rivals to faith, but instruments that reveal God’s glory. When rightly understood, they deepen our awe of the Creator, affirming that all wisdom, discovery, and innovation come from Him.
