THE CHURCH AND EDUCATION

“and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

II Timothy 3:15 NKJV

Education is one of the most powerful tools to shape a child’s life. From the moment a child steps into school, their mind begins to open, their character begins to form, and their future begins to take shape. But the question is: who will influence what they learn and how they grow?

Our anchor scripture reminds us that no child is too young to encounter God’s Word. At the age of twelve, Jesus Himself was found in the temple, listening, asking questions, and growing in wisdom (Luke 2:46–47). If Jesus embraced learning at a young age, how much more should children today be guided toward godly wisdom?

This is where the Church must rise. Firstly, by establishing schools and learning centers that weave together knowledge and biblical values. These institutions can become places where children are not only trained in academics but also taught to live by godly principles. Imagine a school where prayer, discipline, and excellence are the foundation of every lesson. Such schools would have produced leaders who carry both intellectual strength and spiritual conviction into the wider society.

Secondly, the Church can make a difference by providing scholarships and educational support for children who might otherwise be left behind. Many families struggle to afford school fees, uniforms, and books. The Church can step in to lift that burden, whether by sponsoring a child’s education, setting up a scholarship fund, or supporting vocational training. By doing this, we break the cycle of poverty and open the doors of opportunity for children who would have had no chance to learn.

Thirdly, the Church can invest in creating materials, programs, and mentorship opportunities that fill young hearts with both skill and truth. This can take the form of publishing Christian books for children, running summer Bible clubs with academic coaching, or organizing mentorship programs where professionals guide young people in career paths while also modeling godly living. These efforts plant seeds that help children grow into well-rounded individuals, intellectually capable, spiritually grounded, and morally strong.

But beyond systems and structures, the Church can open its arms by turning its halls into safe places for after-school study, opening its doors for vocational training, and stirring up teachers, mentors, and professionals in the congregation to pour into the next generation.

Dear believer, education is not just about books and classrooms, it is about destiny. When the Church takes its seat in this system, we are not only raising intelligent children; we are raising godly leaders, light-bearers, and change-makers for generations to come.

So today, reflect on this: What role will you play? Will you pray, teach, mentor, give, or simply open your hands to help one child? Whatever the contribution, let it be a seed in the field of education because together, we can shape a future that glorifies God.
