THE CHURCH AND FAMILY

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15 NKJV

Have you ever stepped into a friend’s home and felt almost out of place because the way they lived was so different from what you were used to? Often, our habits, beliefs, and values are shaped by the kind of upbringing we receive. This is why the family unit is an essential channel for instilling godly values and upholding God’s will.

One of the most powerful ways to change the world is by building strong families with godly values. As believers, we ought to utilise the family institution to focus on reclaiming biblical marriage and parenting, thereby transforming society from the home outward. The world would experience a monumental shift if whole families aligned with God’s will.

In today’s anchor text, Joshua highlighted two key principles: first, following God is a conscious decision that every individual should make. Second, you should share your faith with your family. Like Joshua, you should not keep your faith to yourself. As you grow in God, you must share the gospel with your immediate and extended family members. Society would become a better place when homes are the foundation for spiritual growth and transformation.

God’s plan for marriage, as seen in Genesis 2:24, is the union of a man and a woman. He instructed them to be fruitful and multiply, which implies that it does not end with the man and woman; there are children to be trained in the way of the Lord (Genesis 1:28, Proverbs 22:6).

Raising godly children begins with godly parents. Timothy is a beautiful example of this truth. The Apostle Paul commended his grandmother, Lois, and his mother, Eunice, for passing down to him the same genuine faith they lived by. (2 Timothy 1:5). God doesn’t just seek to raise men and women of faith; He also desires parents to build faith-based families and pass on their beliefs to their children. Luke 2:51-52 provides another example: At the age of twelve, Jesus was obedient to His parents, resulting in holistic growth.

Dear believer, you must recognise the importance of creating a godly atmosphere in your home to raise children who will love the Lord and positively impact their society. The future of the Christian faith largely depends on you. Godly parenting isn’t just about instructions; you must also leave a legacy of godliness for your children to emulate.

SAY THIS: “By God’s strength, I will live a godly life, will raise godly children, and will let my home influence this world for Christ.”
