“and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again”… “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.” – 2 Corinthians 5:15,20 NKJV
Imagine an ambassador sent to a foreign land entrusted with a mission critical to his people’s survival. Despite countless distractions, he must remain focused on his purpose for being there. Similarly, as a believer navigating life, you will face many distractions and temptations, and you must learn to remain focused while living a purposeful life.
The anchor scripture explains that you no longer live for yourself but for Christ, who died for you. This means that you are living for a purpose that is greater than you. Your purpose is to know Christ and to make him known to the world. This is important to God and, therefore, has become vital to you. Even when life feels overwhelming or distracting, this eternal purpose must remain a priority.
To maintain focus in this age you must always remember whom you belong to. As a believer, your identity is rooted in Christ, and your purpose flows from this truth (Ephesians 2:10). When you consciously center your thoughts on your purpose, it keeps you reminded of your assignment.
Meditating on God’s word is also critical to staying on track because it helps you remember your identity and purpose. It fuels your knowledge of God and keeps you sane amid life’s pressures. Your convictions are strengthened when they are based on what God has said. So, stay with the Word to know what God has said about you. By staying in the place of prayer, you will also build fortitude to withstand trials and contrary thoughts.
In addition, accountability is a great way to stay rooted in living a purposeful life. We have been instructed in the Word to spur one another to good works, so surround yourself with a community of faith-filled people. This will help you stay encouraged and on track(Hebrews 10:24-25).
Dear believer, your purpose on earth is a mission important to God, and you cannot afford to lose focus. When life pressures you, remind yourself of who you belong to and how crucial your purpose is in God’s plan. Stay anchored and focused.
